What We Do:

Pacific Coast Kayaks can offer a range of school kayaking experiences. This can be as part of a school camp or a class outing, an elective, expedition or skills training.

Students will enjoy the excitement and sense of achievement as they explore our wonderful coastal areas. They can learn about the wildlife and natural history while having fun with their classmates.

Why Choose Us..?

Pacific Coast Kayaks is a locally run operation based in Onerahi and Tutukaka. Mark Garry is the director and fully qualified NZOIA sea kayak guide. Mark was born in Whangarei and is a kayaker with a background in whitewater kayaking. He has over 30 years experience Mark is a fully registered classroom teacher with a passion for teaching in the outdoors. He has a history of organising safe, challenging and exciting camps and excursions. He has a 100% safety record in the outdoors and is a full Member of N.Z.O.I.A. Mark is personally involved in many aquatic activities and has an excellent knowledge of local conditions in Northland through his involvement in surfing, diving, sailing and kayaking. While based in Australia he gained a Diploma in Outdoor Education with a focus on Environmental Education and Natural History. Pacific Coast Kayaks likes to incorporate historical and wildlife study as part of kayaking or other outdoor experiences. We believe in exploring, learning about and caring for our local environment.

Our Kayaks and Equipment

We have double and single sea kayaks, which are suitable for students aged 11 upwards. The double kayaks are especially suitable for novice paddlers as they are very stable. They are also quite fast. For younger students we can arrange hire of sit-ons or we can use school kayaks.

Our Prices

$400 per day is the usual rate, which is a discount rate for school students. In a normal group this equates to only around $12-$15 per student. This includes all company kayaks and equipment and briefing.

Transport is an additional charge and is based on mileage. We try to stay local to reduce costs.

Mark can also stay overnight. This may help with overall adult/student ratios, which can be an issue these days. Rates for this are negotiated and depend on level of responsibility expected.

Please contact us to discuss your ideas and plans. Mark will visit the school and meet with teachers. He can also take lessons to prepare the students for their outdoor experience.
